Seven Steps to Living a Disease-Free Life Part 3

Step 3: Exercise

Diseases may occur as a result of an activity or inactivity. We have seen instances where diseases have occurred because of a wrong action like eating the wrong food.

Diseases also occur when an individual does not do anything, like living a sedentary lifestyle.

A sedentary lifestyle is one where someone spends a lot of time sitting down or sleeping, not moving about much and not doing anything; not involved in any kind of activity.

This kind of lifestyle generally slows down the body systems to the extent of causing one disease condition or the other. It is a lifestyle that leads to stagnation of water in the body and a sluggish blood flow.

Toxic acidic wastes accumulate, rendering the tissues acidic and a favorable breeding ground for disease.

The heart becomes weak and together with the state of dehydration gives rise to conditions such as hypertension and its complications. There is weakness and a general feeling of malaise all the time. Later in life such lifestyle can lead to the development of certain kinds of cancer in the body because of the long standing acidity of the body. Added to this is the increased acidity due to lack of sweating which keeps toxins that would otherwise be expelled through the sweat pores by sweating.

The high level of acidity in the body of such an individual will elicit the production of fatty tissues for storage of the acid.

The end result of this is obesity accompanied with all the complications. All these adverse effects of the sedentary lifestyle will eventually lead to death.

To avoid these effects and to live a disease-free life therefore, it is important that everybody engages in exercises to one degree or the other.

These exercises as some think, are not the strenuous ones that sport men and women engage in. The recommended exercises for maintaining a vibrant life and general wellbeing are referred to as aerobics.

Brisk walking for 30 minutes each day, three to four days a week is just all that is required of you. However, if you are doing this for the first time, you want to start with five to ten minutes walk and gradually increase the duration every week.
